ORB is a compact standalone rompler created for Song Athletics as a dedicated home for their multi-sampled instruments.
It gives their multi-sampled instruments a dedicated hardware home. Running on a Raspberry Pi with the open-source SampleBox engine, it lets musicians plug in a MIDI keyboard and play rich, layered sounds instantly—no computer required. This reduces setup time, avoids carrying large performance keyboards, and makes ORB ideal for live sets, hardware-only rigs, or focused practice sessions.
The enclosure uses a two-part MJF-printed nylon shell (by 3D People) engraved with the Song Athletics logo. Its fine texture and colour contrast separate the white body from the controls. A small OLED display, a four-way controller, and two function buttons provide quick access to sounds and settings.
Inside, the layout centres on the Raspberry Pi and an audio DAC. A simple screw-together construction supports low-volume manufacturing and DIY kits. USB-C power, USB-A MIDI input, and a stereo mini-jack output keep the connections clean, reliable, and compatible with most studio keyboards and compact live setups.
The result is a small, durable instrument that sits neatly on any synth or controller. It turns Song Athletics’ sample libraries into a portable, physical device that can travel as easily as a pedal.
